Yoav Preiss: In a World of Unrest, Why Is Israel More Attractive Than Ever?

I remember around nearly 20 months ago a disagreement I had with Hillel Fuld over dinner in my house. The question was: Should everyone move to Israel? 😨 Hillel held strongly that the time was ripe even with some hardships along the way. I felt differently. I held that everyone has their own reasons which need to be respected. Every week, it seems the world grows more chaotic. Protests erupt. Antisemitism spikes. Economies wobble. And yet… the opposite trend is unfolding quietly but powerfully: More people are being drawn to Israel.

Despite the conflict. Despite the uncertainty. Despite the complexity. It’s not just political — it’s personal. It’s not just emotional — it’s spiritual. There’s something happening beneath the surface. A sense that Israel isn’t just a place to move to — it’s a place to return to. As the world feels shakier, Israel feels more solid. More rooted. More ancient… and somehow more relevant. Mystical thinkers have long said that in times of upheaval, the soul gets stirred.

That chaos clears distractions. And when the noise gets loud enough, we finally hear what’s been calling us all along. This isn't just a trend. It’s a return to something eternal. Hillel...20 months later I am starting to come around. Yes it's has it's challenges in so many ways but like we trust in Hashem with the wars we are now in, we should trust Him to help us make the eternal move and it's consequences if everyone moves. Love to hear your comments.
